The deal
These terms are an agreement between you and Ilium Studio ("we", "us"), the maker of Plate Debt. By using the app or this website you agree to them, along with our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Plate Debt.
Who can use it
You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
Your account
You need an account to use Plate Debt. Keep your sign-in secure and let us know if you think someone else is using it. You are responsible for what happens under your account. You can delete it at any time from the Me tab in the app.
It is a game, and the numbers are estimates
Plate Debt is for fun. Plate values are estimates based on typical menu prices and adjusted for your area. Calorie and nutrition numbers are rough estimates for standard portions. AI plate scans can miss or misidentify food. None of it is exact, and none of it is medical, dietary, or financial advice. Talk to a professional before making health decisions.
Please eat responsibly. Do not eat past the point of feeling well, respect each restaurant's rules (including time limits and waste policies), and be kind to the staff.
Shared tables and things you add
When you join a table, the other people at it can see your display name and what you log during that meal. Restaurants and prices you add are shared with everyone who uses Plate Debt.
You keep ownership of what you add. You give us a worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, and use it to run and improve Plate Debt. Only add things you have the right to share, and keep it accurate and respectful. Do not use offensive display names, post false or spammy entries, harass other people, or try to break, overload, scrape, or reverse engineer the service. We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules.
Zero tolerance. There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users on Plate Debt. That includes hateful, sexual, violent, threatening, or harassing display names or restaurant entries. We review every report within 24 hours, remove content that breaks these terms, and remove the accounts that posted it.
To report a restaurant entry, a display name, or another user, long-press it in the app and choose Report, or email support@platedebt.com with the name and where you saw it. You can also block a diner, which hides their name and keeps them out of tables you host.
Premium and scan packs
- Plate Debt is free with ads. Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription (monthly or yearly) that removes ads and includes AI plate scans.
- Premium scans are subject to a monthly fair-use limit, shown in the app, to keep costs fair for everyone.
- Scan packs are one-time purchases of scan credits. Credits from packs do not expire, are used after your monthly Premium scans, and have no cash value.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends. You can manage or cancel in your Apple ID subscription settings. Deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription.
- Prices are shown in the app before you buy and may change. A price change for a subscription follows Apple's rules for notice and consent.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- A scan that recognizes nothing does not use a credit.
Ads
The free version shows ads, including a full-screen ad when you finish a meal and optional rewarded ads that earn a free scan or unlock extras. Rewards are limited and may change. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, and we are not responsible for the products or sites they advertise.
Our app
We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use Plate Debt on Apple devices you own or control, under these terms and the Apple Media Services Terms. Plate Debt, its design, and its content belong to us or our licensors. We may update, change, or stop any part of the app at any time.
Ending things
You can stop using Plate Debt and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or misuse the service. Sections that by their nature should survive (like ownership, disclaimers, and limits on liability) still apply after that.
Disclaimers
Plate Debt is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any estimate is correct.
Limit on liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data. Our total liability for any claim about Plate Debt is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or 50 US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Plate Debt or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for the app. Apple has no other warranty obligation for it. Apple is not responsible for handling any claims about the app, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection claims, or claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property. You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US government embargo and are not on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will let you know in the app. If you keep using Plate Debt after an update, you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict of law rules, except where the consumer laws of your home country require otherwise.
